The start of the program was the result of joint activities of the Health Center of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute on Public Health Policy in the framework of the project "Prison Interventions and HIV Prevention Collaboration".
At the end of July, the SMT treatment program started in the Stryzhavska Multidisciplinary Hospital №81, a branch of the Health Center of the State Penitentiary Cervice (SPC) of Ukraine in Vinnytsia Oblast, and the Shepetivka Multidisciplinary Hospital №98, a branch of the SPC of Ukraine in Khmelnytsky Oblast, which provide medical care to inmates.
The first persons with mental and behavioral disorders due to opioid use among the prisoners in the state institutions "Stryzhavska Correctional Colony №81" and "Shepetivka Correctional Colony №98" received the initial dose of Methadone.
Previously, for employees of the medical institutions were conducted trainings on the organization of the procedures for dispensing Methadone, working with patients and maintaining medical records.
