Monitoring visit within the project “Prison Interventions and HIV Prevention Collaboration”

Preparation for implementation of the substitution maintenance therapy (SMT) program at the Stryzhavka Correctional Colony No. 81 is going on.

The representatives of the Health Center of the State Criminal Executive Service (HC SCES) of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute on Public Health Policy paid a monitoring visit to Stryzhavka Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 81, a medical institution in Vinnytsia region, which renders aid to imprisoned patients. 

During the visit, the team of experts evaluated the state of preparatory measures prior to initiate the treatment program with the use of SMT medications for persons with mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of opioids by convicts, serving their sentence at the Stryzhavka Correctional Colony No. 81. A general meeting and consultations of the first patients, wishing to participate in the program, were held. 

Implementation of the SMT program in the Stryzhavka Correctional Colony No. 81 will become the result of the HS SCES and UIPHP joint activities within the project “Prison Interventions and HIV Prevention Collaboration”.
