In Kyiv on April 10th a training for the staff of the Project “Integrating Treatment for Mental Disorders in Methadone Clinics in Ukraine” was delivered. The meeting was attended by 45 representatives from 12 regions of Ukraine.
The aim of this Project is to promote scientifically based methods and best world practices for identifying and treating depression among drug addicts who receive opioid agonist therapy (OAT) at health care facilities in Ukraine. In particular, the effectiveness of the modified SBIRT intervention will be studied, where instead of offsite psychiatric referral, depression is treated onsite using SSRIs.
The five-year project "Integrating Treatment for Mental Disorders in Methadone Clinics in Ukraine" is being implemented by the Ukrainian Institute on Public Health Policy, the Yale School of Medicine and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine.
